CMAC Alumnus Dan Magro Launches Show on Current TV

DAN MAGRO, a 2008 Communication graduate of the University of the Arts, has launched his own lifestyle and entertainment series on Current TV, an independent cable TV network co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore. “Dan about Town” highlights Magro’s blunt, sharp-tongued and colorful take on what’s going on in Los Angeles, where the show is based. In its Sept. 29 premiere, Magro set out to prove his new-found theory that no one in Los Angeles talks to you unless you have a dog or a baby.

“There is so much to see, do, share and enjoy right in front of us,” Magro said. “The show is a snarky, clever and sarcastic take at finding cool things to do, and experiencing life to the fullest – while making fun of it the entire time.”

The Philadelphia area native investigates everything from the mainstream to the mundane, including taking separate surfing and pole dancing lessons, making the perfect cocktail, building a vertical garden and even getting his first tattoo.

“We have two goals with the show,” continued Magro, who writes, directs and produces and has numerous voiceover and local television series credits. “First, we wanted people to laugh and enjoy themselves. And we wanted to be able to share our discoveries with our viewers. Even though we’re in L.A., we tried to make almost every topic general enough to have a version you can experience in your city or town. Don’t take me or the show too seriously because we certainly don’t. I always try to be the first to laugh at myself. That way I beat everyone else to the punch, plus it makes the situation that much better. We want to leap right into the chaos!”

New episodes of “Dan About Town” premiere each Tuesday on Current TV, a cross-platform media company founded in 2005 by Gore and businessman Joel Hyatt that features short programs, a portion of which are created by viewers and users.
